Hank Aldrich: 'great show, great snow'

Sportslink's European correspondent Hank Aldrich attended last week's Ispo Munich trade show, giving it the thumbs up.

Here he reports on highlights, which included the recent falls of snow in the German city, boosting the atmosphere. "Another Ispo has passed and I was there for Sportslink Slinki!

With 80.000+ visitors and a new record for exhibitors, it again proved to be the global leader in sporting goods trade shows.

Digitalisation was a big theme of the show and new halls for e-sports and virtual reality games are setting the way for the future.

Organisers are proud to be hosting the 2019 OutDoor by Ispo show later this year and held a press conference outlining the new format. Already over 700 exhibitors have signed up to the new show.

It was confirmed by Messe Friedrichshafen that a competing trade-only show will be held on Lake Constance (the former Outdoor show venue) in September. Let's see who actually attends these shows, Aldrich reports.

With the focus on winter sports, the recent snowfall in Munich was a perfect backdrop for getting buyers in the mood.

However the absence of the Amer Sports Group (Atomic, Salomon, Suunto, Peak Performance) was criticised by many as a major mistake by its management.

Ispo continues its global outreach with special focus on the Chinese sporting goods industry with special reports from the outdoor segment and the ski market.

Two highlights of Ispo Munich are the Brand New area and the awards for product innovations.

Plus ample space for meeting areas, special demonstration and trial areas, and opportunities to have a coffee or a catch-up made the show a pleasant place to visit, says Aldrich.
