Exhibition to trace the story of swimwear

Sydney’s National Maritime museum will show off the many changes in swimwear and the evolution of the modern swimsuit in a new exhibition opening in early July.

The exhibition draws on the museum’s extensive collection of historical swimwear, from the early 1900’s when  Annette Kellermen bucked the trend of heavy knitted garments,  the launch of Speedo in 1912 ,  the  development of the bikini in all its permutations to  today’s highly technical developments.

Contemporary Australian brands including  Speedo, Zimmermann, Seafolly, Tigerlily and aussieBum show  creative costumes  recalling the Annette Kellerman era in a modern  context.

“Exposed! The story of swimwear”  will also tour to WA, SA, Queensland, Wagga Wagga and Newcastle.
