Seven of Australia’s sports champions will be inducted into the coveted Sport Australia Hall of Fame, and one member elevated to Legend status.

These awards will be among many to be made at The Sport Australia Hall of Fame “Australian Spirit”  Gala Dinner  in Melbourne on  October 10.

New Hall of Famers will join  518 Members who represent the pinnacle of 200 years of sporting excellence including Sir Donald Bradman, Dawn Fraser, Betty Cuthbert, Rod Laver, Ted Whitten, Wally Lewis, John Eales , Mick Doohan, Greg Norman and Catherine Freeman.

Presented by Etihad Airways at the Crown Palladiam, the event will see one member becoming the “35th Legend of Australian Sport”.

The dinner will also celebrate the athlete whose achievements have most inspired the nation through his or her example in the past year with the presentation of the  “The Don” Award,  named after inaugural inductee and Legend Sir Donald Bradman.                                               

Scholarships will be presented to five future champions, each assigned a member as their mentor and  the ‘Spirit of Sport’ award for an outstanding achievement.

The Sport Australia Hall of Fame chairman John Bertrand  says, “These awards represent the highest national sporting honours that can be bestowed.”
