Avanti acquires Pac Brands bikes
Published: August 18, 2011Avanti Bicycle Company has purchased the bicycle division of Pacific Brands, with completion scheduled on September 1.
Avanti is part of the New Zealand and Australian-based Sheppard Group, which has been working in the bicycle industry for more than 30 years.
Says managing director and owner of the Sheppard Group, John Struthers, The acquisition will effectively double turnover and solidify the group as a formidable competitor in the Australian and New Zealand bicycle markets.
No figure for the acquisition has been revealed.
Struthers and his team are expected to move the new businesses’ office and administration functions to the Pacific Brands bike division headquarters in Victoria’s Altona North.
General manager of the Sheppard Group’s Australian operation is Steve Paraskevas, a former head of Pacific Brands bicycle division.
He says the acquisition is “hugely exciting and will bring real benefits to bicycle retailers, our teams and the brands involved for Australia and New Zealand.”
Brian Gillin, who has been with Pacific Brands for many years, has joined the Sheppard Group with the change in ownership.
• The Sheppard Group operates as a wholesaler, distributor and retailer in New Zealand and Australia.
The business has built strong and successful brands including Avanti, ABD, Zero, and Peak Fuel and distributes brands including Scott, Raleigh, DT Swiss and Kenda. There are more than 40 Avanti Plus branded stores in Australia.
Pacific Brands carry Masi, Malvern Star, Haro, Ridley, Repco, Diamondback and Norco bike brands as well as Bell, Rosebank, Giro, Blackburn, Park Tool Co, Finish Line and Cateye, along with 23 Bike Hub stores in Australia.
