ASICS get a grip on new Wallabies jersey

Wallabies players show off their new jersey, launched by sponsor ASICS yesterday in Sydney.

Several Qantas Wallabies squad members including Stephen Moore, Israel Folau, James Slipper and Bernard Foley, were on hand at Allianz Stadium.

Through scientific research and testing, ASICS has been able to develop a jersey that is lighter, stronger, more ergonomically fitted and harder to grab than previous Wallabies jerseys.

The jersey has also been created with specially designed grip points which will enable players to hold the ball more securely and will be worn for the first time when the Wallabies take on Fiji at Millennium Stadium Cardiff (UK) on 23 September in our first pool match of the Rugby World Cup 2015.

Designed to give the squad an inside edge for the World Cup, squad members, including Israel Folau, underwent product testing at the ASICS Institute of Sport Science in Kobe, Japan.

General Manager of Marketing ASICS Oceania Sam Chew says that the ASICS institute is at the forefront of research into sports product, helping athletes achieve their goals. "ASICS is committed to performance, and we design every detail of our rugby apparel and footwear to benefit the player."

"It was amazing to have a role in the development of our World Cup jersey design at ASICS in Japan," Folau says.

Australian Rugby Union Chief Executive, Bill Pulver said that the hands-on approach by ASICS in the development of the jersey was a great experience for players."It helps to provide a sense of ownership for players and will give our campaign preparations a definite lift."

• ASICS also sponsors the national South African team, known as the Springboks in the world cup which starts on September 18 in the UK.
