ASGA president : 'we have had a good year'

President of the Australian Sporting Goods Association Erica Berchtold reports that "it has been a good year."

"Our primary achievement is the end of the low value tax threshold although the starting date is July 1, 2017 and much detail needed to be finalised before then."

Other achievements had been the launch of the new ASGA website - "and we have received an enthusiastic response to this."

Most of the day before Monday afternoon's annual general meeting had been spent by the board of directors in a strategy meeting, focussed on the next five year plan and on surveying members to understand what they want from the association in future.

Executive Director Shannon Walker also described the abolition of the low value threshold as a win for ASGA and for retailers generally.

He reported that ASGA had been the first industry body to lobby for its abolition, later joined by many others, and he considered that it's achievement was a "feather in our cap."

He also reported that ASGA membership is up by 20 percent over two years and that the association has grown its income, and cut costs.

Three members of the eight-member board - wholesaler Guy Tuthill and retailers James Ashworth and Mark Abeyaratne - were re-elected unopposed.

Independent directors are Gayle Dickerson (of Grant Thornton) and the AFL's David Elliott.

Wholesale directors are Guy Tuthill (Hanes Brands), Andrew Reed (Acushnet) and Adam Joyce (Amer Sport).

Retail directors are Erica Berchtold (Super Retail Group), James Ashworth (Velocity Brand Management) and Mark Abeyaratne (Drummond Golf)
