ARL conference ‘planned for success’
All agreed that the business environment is “challenging” now but the ARL sports and leisure division member conference had an air of optimism and confidence this year, reports Sportslink editor Maggie Coleman.
Many of the around 160 members of Sports Power and Sportscene and the more than 50 suppliers exhibiting at the trade fair reported that perhaps a glimmer of light was showing at the end of the tough trading tunnel.
The annual four day event was held at the Etihad Stadium last week with the Victory Room the location for the two days of buzzing trade fair.
There of the conference was “Plan for Success” and included several presentations by the ARL team, major suppliers, benchmarking workshops and catalogue buying as well as the Monday evening crystal ball -themed dinner with awards presented. Guest speaker Max Walker is reported to have had the guests in stitches.
The busy ARL team was led by Campbell McMahon who is in charge of the division along with his other duties while a new general manager is sought for what is described by general manager marketing and development Alex Bowler as a “great role for the right person, as we are a strange beast, neither a corporate nor a franchise organisation but one which works with and for our members.”
