AFL flies on with new Virgin deal
The Australian Football League has extended its partnership with Virgin Australia for a further five years.
Virgin Australia has served as the AFL’s official airline since January 2011 and now becomes the naming rights partner for various grand final events this weekend.
The Hawks and the Dockers fought it out at the G, and Virgin Australia laid on extra flights to cater for the demand of devoted fans.
The airline has played a lead role in the “Any Game Anywhere” initiative – the AFL’s travel service which enables fans to tailor travel packages, tickets and accommodation.
Says Virgin Australia chief executive John Borghetti, “Over the past three years, we have carried AFL teams on more than 450 flights, provided tens of thousands of extra seats to support fans attending finals matches and launched innovative initiatives to promote the sport and reward its fans.
• Virgin Australia agreed a deal with Basketball Australia in June to become the official airline for the Women’s National Basketball League through the next two seasons.
