AFL clubs: some red, some black

Financial results for AFL clubs prove again that it is ladder positions that count.

Top clubs posted profits, those with disappointing seasons such as the Sydney Swans generally posted losses.

The Swans experience has been that a premiership win in 2005 brought profits that year and the two following but a fall down the ladder hits the bottom line.

Adelaide Crows showed a reduced profit, but Hawthorn showed a strong result.

Victorious Cats brought in a profit for the tenth year — two premierships in three years showing a boost in the books
