Adidas grows fast in China

Still on a high from the sales results of the Olympics and Paralympics, Adidas has opened a new China headquarters in  Shanghai’s Puxi commercial and retail district.

At 20 per cent larger than its previous home,  the expanded headquarters will support the “tremendous growth in recent years, and the plan to open 500 more stores across China before the end of the year,” says Colin Currie, managing director of the Adidas group in Greater China.

“Our goal is to be in 1400 lower-tier cities by 2015, strengthen our position in key categories such as football and running, and maintain annual double-digit growth through 2015.”

In the two years since the Route 2015 strategy was launched, Adidas has more than 7000 retail stores across 900 cities, reporting  “our first-half results have shown a 19 percent increase in China.”
